Welly 1:18 1971 Lamborghini Miura SV
This is my 2nd 1:18 Miura, the first one being a yellow Burago version which I bought because there was no other choice at that time and which I cursed from the very moment I bought it Tongue The Burago one looked cool from a distance of 4 feet but up close it was a real mess-up.

The Welly one, on the other hand, is a blast!! Gorgeous would be a major understatement. I think it's pretty close to the Autoart version. Only external differences would be lack of fully rolled-up windows and non-openable rear engine shell. Otherwise, it's more than worth its money.

PROS:

1. Proportions are about right for this complexly curved beauty. The '71 Miura is different from the '68 one in that the wheel arches in the '68 one bulge quite over the wheel wells while not so much in the '71 version so that the '71 version looks more muscular rather than like a shell. Pretty good replication by Welly. Stance is also awesome but I feel the size of the model is in question.
2. Great looking paintwork and I just love the dual red-gold combination. Shine is pretty even though there are some small blemishes in the paintwork on the hood but not noticeable even from up close. You would really have to give it a careful scrutiny to discover those.
3. Chrome is awesome. Love the huge chrome wipers on the windshield that lend so much authenticity to the overall model. Windscreen silver borders are a minor feature but make the model look ugly when are absent like in the Burago one but here Welly has done a good job.
4. Rims - Critical part of the Miura style and really difficult to model I am guessing. One of the most unique rim designs I have seen on a car and Welly has modelled them accurately. Definitely one of the selling points of the car.
5. Pop-up headlights!! Now that's something you don't expect at all in a budget model. Neat little feature there from Welly. There's a small lever inside the hood right behind the headlights which make both the lights pop up simultaneously. The stance of the car gets a real noticeable change when the lights are popped up.
6. Interiors are pretty fine to look at. Whereas Maisto and Burago make great big blobs of steering wheels and gear levers, Welly is far far superior to them. Neat little round dials with fine meters, right-sized and rightly-placed steering wheel, seatbelts on the sides, gear lever pretty accurate too. Interiors are quite good for a budget model.

CONS:
1. Non-openable rear engine shell. Don't know why Welly decided not to replicate that. Most probably because that would have led to ugly panel gaps which is actually the case in the Burago version. Although Welly has made the rear boot openable.
2. Doors are loose!!! I was actually surprised by this because that's not a Welly drawback usually. When you open them up, they actually wiggle up and down a bit so you have to push them up a bit when you close them in. A really irritating feature of an otherwise fine model.
3. Vent behind the door on the sideskirts does not have any mesh at all. Just a solid looking panel that is supposed to be an air-vent. I guess this is the difference between a budget and a premium brand.
4. Exhaust tips ok to look at but could have been more hollow. Also, there's a noticeable gap in the continuity of the exhaust pipes. The tips are actually a bit separate from the rest of the piping which continues into the undercarriage. So the tips are separate pieces from the rest of the piping but are fitted in exact alignment with them to give the appearance that they are a continuation of the pipes.
5. Semi-rolled-up windows. Don't know for sure whether this is a negative point. Some people might actually love it. But either they should give fully rolled up windows or no windows at all. It ruins the effect of the bull's horns portion of the doors.
6. Lack of external RVM's on the front fenders. I checked out pics of the Autoart version and even that doesn't have any!!! Kyosho of course haven't missed out on those. Incidentally, I noticed the lack of these when I was unscrewing the Miura from the base because that's when you have to be careful while holding the model so as not to break the external RVM's.

Hey Karan congratulations for the Miura . It looks really beautiful with golden belly but i don't think that the door problem that you are talking is with every miura coz i have the welly version as well and it doesn't have any such problem. May be its just a piece defect.

What a lovely budget model. Never expected such detail from Welly! But the lack of RVMs is a BIG let down. This glaring emission is in the Autoart too? Then the Kyosho is the perfect choice.

Thats a great addition Karan, it looks great in Red and Gold. Welly seems to have done quite a great job in detailing.

RE: Welly 1:18 1971 Lamborghini Miura SV
Excellent review this.I'd just like to point out that the absence of the rear view mirrors on this Welly and the AutoArt 1:18 Lamborghini Miura SV is not an oversight but almost certainly a deliberate omission. Most images of the actual car that I have come across seem to suggest that, for reasons I can't imagine (Aerodynamics?),it didn't have any wing mirrors at all.Kind of like the Saleen S7.Although the Saleen does have a reversing camera which I don't think the Lambo does.
Having said that,I can confirm that the Kyosho renditions are probably the best 1:18 Lamborghini Miura scale-models out there.I have both,a 1:18 Lamborghini Miura SV by AutoArt and a 1:18 Lamborghini Miura P400S by Kyosho and the Kyosho just seems to have a better stance.I think the same is true for the Lamborghini Countach scale-models by AutoArt and Kyosho,as well, however these I cannot comment upon as I haven't got the AutoArt and I've never even seen the Kyosho in the metal.

Inside every man is a little kid who wants to play.
