About 6 months back I hadn't even seen an Autoart in reality and I'm yet to see a Kyosho. But after acquiring my first Autoart I realized what finish, paint and precession are all about. Hence I strongly made up my mind that I would only spend on premium brands even if it allows me to buy only 4-5 models a year. But there are always some better models by the cheaper brands which I would still buy but surely won't make it a habit.

RE: Hathi Mere Sathi!!!
@ Srinjay, Arkin et al - Guys, a piece of advice though of course it's your priority what to choose - don't fall into the trap of getting only premier brands.....there are tonnes of great models from budget brands like Maisto, Burago and Welly especially Welly. I don't particularly much like Burago but even it has some good offerings. You just have to have a discerning eye. Trust me, you won't be able to live with buying only 4-5 premium models a year when you will realise that you can get 3 or 4 budget models for the price of a premium one. Plus the fact is you get more variety in budget brands than you do with the limited stock that retailers have when it comes to Autoart or Kyosho.

RE: Hathi Mere Sathi!!!
^^Pretty much true. I hate Maisto and Bburago, but I love Welly. The thing is, now on, most of my models will be imports brought back by relatives, so name it, I can get it. Besides, there are a few AAs that I can get for 2000 bucks (~55$)and less too, from abroad. However, I will still pick up a couple of Maistos. I'm picking up a Maisto Hummer this week, as it is VFM.
Besides, it is not the quantity of my collection that I'm focusing on. Its the quality. I hope you get me.

I absolutely get your point mate. Both my last purchases were made on ebay, shipped them to friends working on sight in U.S. Even I bought 2 beamers (Autoart & Kyosho) for less than 2500 INR each. The second one is yet to reach Kolkata on the 13th. And Welly is indeed better than the Maistos and Bburagos except for the fact that the rear doors do not open. I was in fact quite amazed to see the quality of Porsche GT3 RS, the only Welly I've bought till now. But then again I felt that there are problems with the car sizes;e.g. Dodge Charger and Range Rover....though I'm not hundred percent about it. I do get your point and I also accept that if you have eyes you would certainly get hold of some of the better ones by the cheaper brands. But see the point is if I have acquaintances/friends/relatives staying abroad and I can get premium models shipped to them at a price as low as 2300 INR, then why not spend 500-700 extra and get myself a premium model instead. But that doesn't mean that I would never think of considering a Maiato and a Bburago.

RE: Hathi Mere Sathi!!!
@ Srinjay and Arkin - Didn't know you guys had friends/relatives abroad who could get you the Autoart's at such cheap prices. Heck if you are getting Autoart's for less than 2500 apiece, I say to hell with the budget brands
Otherwise, the cost of shipping ruins the entire experience. BTW, exactly which premium models did you manage to get for as low as 2500 or 2300 INR, are premium brands abroad much lesser priced than they are here?

Check out http://www.ebay.com (not http://www.ebay.in). Last month I got my Autoart BMW 2000 Touring for 2300 INR including shipping in U.S. I also got a Kyosho BMW 6 Series Dealer Edition for less than 2500 INR shipped to a friend there. She'll be here on 13th, so I'm yet to receive it. But its a risk kind of a thing. At times you received damaged stuff (thankfully which hasn't happened with me yet). Then you have to fight back to get a refund. But once you start looking around in ebay you can easily figure out the procedures. And I'm mostly dependent on my friends who are working on-sight projects in U.S.

RE: Hathi Mere Sathi!!!
Very sorry for all this OT, Amit:
Well, Karan for Rs 1500-3000, You can get the 190E, Corvette, Mustang Mach 1 (not the classic one), Jaguar, Beetle, Mini, BMW 1600, 323i, Baur, Baur Cabri, 2000 Tii, MGB, Honda Integra Type R, Porsche carrera, Carrera Gt3, Dodge Viper, Citroen Xsara, Mustang GT, 350Z in 3 iterations, Toyota FJ Cruiser SUV,Ford crown police,Ford Shelby, Mazda RX-8 Ford Sierra, dodge charger, MGB Gt and more including shipping. Most of them are the older AAs I guess. There are a few Kyoshos like the 240Z, and you can find all the others for similar rates in Auctions/discount sales. I got my Kyosho BMw 330i, 550i, 750li, M5 Ring Taxi for 2500 bucks net. PHEW! At Srinjay: You could have got the 2000 tii for Rs 1600 bucks on gomotorbids.com Oh, and Karan, AAs which sell for 110$(Rs 5000) sell for 12$ less in the US. Approx. 500 bucks less. And Minichamps Bentleys costing 12000 in India sell for ~ 7500-8000 there. Also, Kyoshos costing Rs 6495-6995 here can be had for as low as Rs 3500-4000 in the US!!!! :O |
