RE: Maisto 1:18 Porsche 911 Carrera S
Gaurav, I agree with you on the Alfa 8C, didn't get it in my mind coz I don't have one Tongue But I think it's one of the best Buragos ever, really awesome paintwork.

Regarding the Gullwing, I had come across one in Kolkata. It was in red and in one of those special no-window Burago boxes. The Gullwing has been long in my wishlist now. I didn't buy it because I didn't quite like the paintwork and the overall appeal was somehow missing. Plus, the interiors were quite pathetic, to say the least. And now, since I have a 300SL Touring in my collection, I don't think I would buy the Gullwing, not at 1800 or so something that Burago charges simply because it's in a "special" designer box.

As for the Alpine Renault, it was a holy grail for me for a long time before I came across it in a toy shop that Bandhav took me to in CP when I was in Delhi last year. I of course bought it. Here again, Burago have managed to spoil the overall effect because of the stupid chrome wheels but otherwise, the chrome bumpers and the yellow fog lights are really nicely done. Check out my review in the rally cars section. The scale is the part of which I'm really confused coz it's mentioned as 1:16 on the undercarriage and even then it's smaller than most 1:18 cars.

STAY AWAY from the Burago Miura if you are a really really big Lambo fan like me. The Miura looks really good in the glass showcase from a few feet away but up close it's a major disappointment. Bad huge panel gaps, lousy paintwork, absolutely no weight of the model, no chrome window frames and no chrome wipers, pretty loose doors, sloppy interiors.....I should probably stop here. Now I really want the Welly version but I think in the Welly one, the rear engine clampshell isn't openable....what a pity!!!

The Dodge Viper is good when it comes to paintwork and overall appearance, no doubt. Negative points would be the chrome wheels and the stance is actually not quite correct. The front hood of the Viper is an amalgamation of fluid bodystyle with elevations and depressions interspersed throughout its width which Burago have actually failed to capture. The Viper is a really stylish evil looking car and very few modelmakers can replicate that faithfully.

I have written reviews of both the Viper and the Miura in the exotics section. Do check them out.

Agree with you on the 356B, awesome paintwork, awesome chrome finishes, though not too good interiors, but love the gear stick. My mom is a fan of this particular 1:18 in my collection. Again posted a review of it in the vintages section.

I agree with Gaurav. You cannot discount Bburago so easily. If not for Bburago I wouldn't even be around here. They brought diecast to the masses. Back in 1998-99, they were the finest game in town, atleast in India. You wouldn't even touch Maisto with a barge pole. Their models paled in comparison with Bburago. Maisto turned around the tables in 2000-01 with the Jaguar S type and the Porsche 996 GT1. I think the Jaguar S type was my first Maisto and what a fine Maisto it still is.
Bburago chromes it wheels to attract the younger crowd perhaps. I am also positive that chroming the wheels is cheaper to them than painting them silver.
Now my favorite part and I cannot stop plugging the Bburago Bugatti EB110. It is the finest 1:18 modern Bugatti many of us here can afford. The next one cost 7 times as much and even at that price suffers QC issues. The Alfa Romeo 8C and VW Touareg are two other fine cars that I have to add in the near future from DCM.

I have married a good Bburago. She is kind of flawless but likes chrome when it looks gold. Big Grin

:@ Diablo: hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Glad you caught that Big Grin.
Me..I gotta figure my good "Bburago" and "add" her soon. A couple of years more, I guess. I'm in the process of "evaluation" till then Tongue

@ Karan: You are quite right on the interiors of the MB 300 SL. The color combo used for the plastics definitely baffles me. But apart for that it's really awesome. At Rs 1500, i understand its not hitting perfection, but yea, if you can live with it, its pretty cool car to have. I love the 300 SL as a car, so I might be biased towards the Bburago. Smile Btw, the car comes in normal packaging now- I believe KV's got the normal priced car in stock. The plaque/ jewel box cars were from the older lot that came 3-4 yrs back.

Also, the Viper, you are right about. But again, Bburago's the only one out there... till we can get our hands on an Autoart Smile

RE: Maisto 1:18 Porsche 911 Carrera S
I never thought I would buy Maistos anymore (after acquiring my first Autoart) till I came across this Carrera S yesterday. It just took by breath away and I couldn't resist myself from buying it. I must say Karan has done the right up very nicely and I would like to add a few more bits here and there. The first thing which attracted me towards this Maisto model was the paint job and the alloys which made the over all stance of the car quite brilliant.

A couple of things I hate on this one are the tail lights and the door handles. I have a Welly GT3 RS,, which is the best model I've bought at this price. The details are brilliant and when I kept the Maisto beside the Welly I had no doubts that the scale was right for both. Before I bought the Welly GT3 RS I'd gone across a review of the same model in Autoart and Welly and hardly could make any difference between the two (though there are quite a few and Welly also has an edge over the Autoart in some aspects) and realized that it would be an ultimate buy for the price it came for. Now when I compare my Welly GT3 RS to the Maisto Carrera S, I must say the tail lights suck badly and the door handles are just simple moulds with the body without any effort made in making it detailed. Anyway its definitely a great buy for the choices we have here. And I would also suggest all Porsche fans to include the Welly GT3 RS in their collection.

Btw, could somebody please tell me where I could get Kyoshos in India and whether its possible to buy stuff online??? I badly need a Q7 and a 7 Series Tongue
