Diablo Wrote:Vasanth, I hope you can add a 1:18 or two every weekend.
Going back to Lambos, I hope Maisto makes a GT version of the Murcielago with all the bells and whistles like rear spoilers and skirts and carbon fibre body work. I had seen a 1:43 version made by a company whose name I cannot recall now. Nice car, the only sad thing was that the carbon fibre printing on the body was out of scale. More like 1:18 than 1:43.

Adding every weekend! now that would be wishful thinkingTongue All i know is that i will continue to add 1:18s when i come across few likeable models.
Am not too keen on adding more lambos, might add new ones only if i get them in discounts or such. Will focus on muscle cars/suvs and Bikes of courseSmile

RE: My First 1:18 Lambos
Vas, I only wish we have more inexpensive models being sold here. The you would definitely be adding a model every weekend and some in between. I had more fun adding Maistos and Buragos to the collection than getting an Autoart. No doubt an Autoart will have lots of fantastic fine detailing, but its lost in the mass of cheaper models. A collection is not only enjoyed by yourself. Its enjoyed by your family members and friends who visit you. Nothing makes me more happy than seeing the wonder in the eyes of the visitor who comes home and ogles at the collection. It happened when I had only 10 cars and the feeling is no different now.

If you can't dazzle them with brillance, baffle them with bullshit.

Yes, price is a major factor for 1:18 cars. The current maistos are decently priced, but i still wish that they were a bit cheaper Sad Autoart does give top notch quality and finishing and all hoopla, but iam not ready to put 4k of my hard earned money on a single model, don't care how damn well the finishing is, it doesn't make sense to me. I would rather add 2 or 3 maistos for same price. Having said that all maisto 1:18s aren't that great as you know it, only a few maistos are good in 1:18s, my hunt is for these few good ones. It would be great if you could share details of 1:18 maistos which are currently available that are worth collecting. Haven't seen any 1:18 Buragos here so far Sad
Regarding visitors, I haven't got a positive response from any one so far who's seen my collection in person, every one told me that i was insane to keep buying "Toys" at this ageTongue Some wondered if iam buying toys in advance for my future kid after i get married Tongue

RE: My First 1:18 Lambos
We lost two posts in this thread, one by Karan and one by me. So hopefully Ari can restore them if possible or I would request Karan to repost from memory coz it was a great post and we wouldn't want to miss it.
Vas, the positives far outweigh the negatives. You will live longer, not suffer from blood pressure (except when you think about the prices), have great stories to tell your grandchildren (how you fought with the kid in the mall to get hold of that Burago) when you collect diecast cars. Another plus is you will meet great people like us who will only help you to spend your money. You will also not put on weight since you will be spending good money on diecast rather than on junk food. Any other pluses you guys can think of to make Vas feel good about collecting....please post them here.

No problem Diablo, I would be only too happy to repost it.

Vasanth, it does not matter in the least what other people think about this hobby.....yes to someone who is not acquainted with it and who does not have any particular affinity to cars in general would obviously find this strange. But that really should not deter a true diecast enthusiast from indulging in this wonderful hobby. To hell with all those who think that this is just wasteful expense.

As far as pricing is concerned, Maistos and Bburagos are the best you could get for cheap money. There's no doubt about that. Although I have been collecting diecasts now for just one year and don't have extensive idea, but here are some definitely worth having Maistos and Bburagos in 1:18 scale :

1. Maisto Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren
2. Maisto Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera
3. Maisto Jaguar S-Type Sedan
4. Maisto Mercedes-Benz SL Class convertible (I think the scale is a bit wrong for this one, it looks slightly large when compared to the SLR McLaren, but otherwise excellent finishing)
5. Maisto 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray (I really wish I had this one but not available in India)
6. Maisto Porsche Carrera GT
7. Maisto Pontiac GTO
8. Maisto Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR (again unavailable in India)
9. Maisto Porsche 911 GT1 (unavailable)
10. Maisto 1936 Mercedes-Benz 500K Specialroadster
11. Maisto Hummer H2 SUV
12. Maisto Chevrolet Corvette Z06
13. Bburago Dodge Viper GTS
14. Bburago Lamborghini Miura
15. Bburago Jaguar E-Type Coupe
16. Bburago Porsche 356B Coupe
17. Bburago Jaguar Mark II (scale not exactly 1:18)
18. Bburago Bugatti EB-110
19. Bburago Aston Martin V12 Vanquish
20. Bburago Lamborghini Reventon (even Autoart and Maisto have not made this in 1:18 so better get it when you find it)
21. Bburago Mercedes-Benz 300SL Touring
22. Bburago Alpine Renault A110 (a must-have)
23. Bburago BMW M Roadster (problems with scale I think but still a good piece) and BMW Z4

Lol! Talk about sarcastic humour Tongue nah, i don't get swayed by people who give negative comments about my diecast hobby, It only makes me determined to collect moreSmile I just love the fact that i have a hobby that is unique and shared by very few people. SMC is like climbing the next big step for me, i met up with people like you who can relate to diecast collecting like i do and you guys provide great tips/tricks and opinions of many models, which are invaluable.

RE: My First 1:18 Lambos
The Bburago Lambo Reventon is not really 1:18. If you put it side by side with the Maisto Superleggera, it is almost the same size. It is also much smaller than the the Murcielago, which it was based from.

RE: My First 1:18 Lambos
Bburagos are known to have problems with scale in some of their models. It's no surprise then that they have done it again with their lambo reventon. Quite surprising that though they have made the murcielago, they couldn't get the reventon right. The Reventon looks like a highly modified form of the Murcielago.
