My DIY scale model Shelf.

My DIY scale model Shelf.
Last year i planned to do something to protect my scale models from dust and damage.I planned to get a small display case fabricated
which should be practical yet economical. Talked with a few carpenters but the idea couldn't materialize due to the cost factor.
Finally i decided to do something on my own and fabricate a display case myself. Got hold of an old Philips DVD player carton which seemed sturdy.
Then began all the measuring and cutting work. Took around a couple of weeks to finish the case as i used wood pattern to give it a wooden look which was printed on a A4 sheet and sticked to the shelf.
The main difficulty in this process was to match the wooden lines (pattern). Once that was done i made the reversible/detachable shelves. This was followed with preparing a door. For that i used couple of Transparency sheets, joined them together and placed them on the frame.
Once all the basic work was over i added four cap assembly (taken from Real juice cartons) beneath the shelf as its stand/legs which allowed some height adjustment to the case. It worked just fine as it helped in increasing the height of the shelf.
Finally, placed all the vintage and classics in there which still look dust free. Smile

Sorry for the long description guys. Here are the pics of the shelf proudly housing (holding) 35 scale models.

One and only testimony that its a Philips carton- look for the Philips marking at lower right hand corner.

Where there's a will there's a way. That's a fantastic customization Samsag12. Storing your old models rightly is certainly more important than buying a few new ones.

Thanks mate. Rightly pointed out by you. More so if the models don't bear any display case then i think a proper storage shelf/ display case is a must.

Thanks for you kind words Petrolhead. Those Corvettes are indeed nice set of wheels but being smaller in size lack intricate detailing like the ones you people have. Smile

Brilliant work! If you wouldn't have mentioned about the carton, it could have easily passed as a wooden cabinet.

Great job. The wooden patterns look good and at the first glance looks like a real wood shelf.

Thanks Abhi. Am glad you liked my work. I fabricated a couple of more shelves for my Kinsmart cars. Though they don't look that real but serve my purpose. Smile

You are absolutely correct, it does resembles a genuine wood shelf at first glance. But the truth is a truth. Big Grin BTW i am planning on fabricating a cabinet for my 1:24 collection soon and thinking of giving it a metallic look. Maybe a diamond plate pattern. What say.
