Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz : Rocketship!
I picked this up 3 years back. At that time I thought that this was the car that Elvis drove once, only to find out later that his was the 3rd generation Eldorado, while my model is the 4th generation!
Personally, I find this the best Eldorado design - the flat deck and those gorgeous tail fins belong on a rocketship! This car oozes cool. At 1 feet long, this car is pure drool. The 1/1, back in the day, was the most luxurious car made by GM and was more expensive than the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow of that time. The model is done well by Maisto, the paint is beautiful n the finish is good. Lights - front n back are done well. The bonnet on mine doesn't sit flush, but I fixed it a bit with some wrangling n twisting. The chrome isn't as bad as most make it out to be, its done pretty well and looks good. She displays beautifully. After the shoot, I spent time smokin a cigarette and admiring her lines in the setting sun. On to the photos now guys: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() WHOSE Y-O-U-R Santa!?!?!?! The new Santa in town wishes all of you a Merry X-Mas and Happy New year! ![]()

Sexy is the word! Cool one mate. The Santa has surely added that oomph factor in the shoot
Seems to be another neat work by Maisto. Infact, 3 years back Maisto models did have good finish and detailing which is prominent in this car. Abhiroop Chatterjee (Classic & Vintage Scale Model Collector) Flickr |

RE: Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz : Rocketship!
That's the best looking Santa I've ever seen!
![]() And that car is so awesome.A rocketship indeed.I have a metallic blue one but the chrome is in real bad shape.I've been thinking of picking up a pink one to replace it and your photos are pushing me further off the fence. You've captured the stance beautifully.Especially in the second photo.Kudos! On an unrelated note, does anyone know of a way to fix dodgy (blackened or yellowed) chrome on a scale-model? Inside every man is a little kid who wants to play. |

RE: Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz : Rocketship!
Guggga, I wish I could say I have this gorgeous Cadillac in my collection. This is one car the wife calls her own and it is actually hers, along with the Corvette Sting Ray and Manta Ray. This is the best looking back end of any car. Those tail lights in the form of jet plane exhausts are simply iconic. Word of caution: take care of them. They have a tendency to come off loose and once lost never to be found again. Sid, the damage on the chromed plastic is irreverisble. Your only option would be to take off all the plastic parts and get them rechromed at an ABS plastic plater. No mean feat that.
If you can't dazzle them with brillance, baffle them with bullshit. ![]() |

RE: Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz : Rocketship!
This is full bling bling material. Reflecting true american style. The fins and the tail lights are to die for. You pictures are very nice and how much I would love to spend a day with the santa, never ever boy's or men would have said this
.Sad that the quality of the ones available now is pathetic, also that the only maker of this 1959 one is Maisto. The old stuff from maisto was indeed much better in quality. As for the rechroming I have a simple solution, chrome paint. Its by Bosny and costs around 200 bucks, prep the surface and spary. The only downside - it looks more like a shinny aluminium stuff rather than bling bling chrome. I did a chrome spray on my beetle, I loved the understated look but again it is a matter of your liking. |

I haven't seen one in the past 2 years! Maybe you can inspect the ones available and pick up a good example? Its a lovely car if you like the subject matter. I like that Bosny paint thing that u are taking about, thankfully none of my models are suffering from bad chrome at the moment. I always put a coat of polish on the chrome parts too... but sometimes I do wonder how many years will the finish last... They are still available in Pink and in Red too, but I don't like the quality, I would prefer the one by Road signature (1958). Also me think too much of rubbing will also bring down the chrome, now I do not even touch the chrome on my newer purchases. |

^^ LMAO@ SILF!!!
I agree about the quality of currently produced Maistos. I want to get the McLaren SLR, but somehow the ones made today have excellent paint, but the finish of the panels and gaps are very poor. Its a hit n miss case, you have to see the model in person before you buy it. |
