The "Best Manufacturer for a Model" Thread
I often spend time searching on ebay for few models on my wishlist and it happens every now and then that I am not too aware of which manufacturer makes the best representation of any particular model. For eg, I was considering buying Welly Pontiac GTO from DCM but then I started researching on the net and found that Highway 61 did a way better job than Welly although it would cost me about INR 5200 including shipping to buy the Highway 61 version. So a bit confused whether to make do with the Welly one now or consider buying the HW 61 directly later on.

Anyway, that's beside the topic. You can use this thread for query related to finding out the "best" manufacturer of any model.

I would appreciate it if someone can shed light on the '66 Pontiac GTO. Is there a better version out there than even the HW 61 one right now??

My favorite post on SMC "I wait for the day when you go ballistic while buying models after you get your first job. I think I would be seeing KV & the Modelart guys bursting fire crackers all day." (quote Winston)

RE: The "Best Manufacturer for a Model" Thread
Very nice thread.

I find meself situation way too often. Just for example I wanted a Modern AM DB, the first choice would have been DBS but as I failed to find one, I settled for a DB9. After searching the Google two brands frequently came up MotorMax and MondoMotors. I have heard numerous horror stories about MotorMax quality so it was a complete no no. Next came Mondo, I already have one from their stable Maserati GT though for 2.5 k its not really worth the money but I still feel that it was my best bet. Now coming back to matter in hand? Does a Mondo DB9 at 3.2k makes sense.

Please say yes as I have already bought one.

^^ 3.2k shipped sounds about fine, considering that shipping must have cost you more than the model itself.
Where'd you get it from?

Great thread, we can post our multiple choices here and a person in dilemma can choose the best route basis suggestions and how much they are willing to spend.

I'm going to have to disappoint you,Spandan. This is a brilliant thread by Karan and it would have helped you a lot while choosing a 1:18 Aston Martin DB9 because then one of us would have pointed you towards the Minichamps rendition. It is very very well made and I have heard that it is not too expensive. You can find some great deals on the Minichamps 1:18 Aston Martin DB9 and I wouldn't be surprised if you could have landed one for not a lot more than Rs3200.But never mind what is done. It's a good thing you are such a talented lensman because you are one of the few people I know who can any model look like a million bucks with your photography. And the Mondo Motors/MotorMax (I think they are the same.) rendition isn't too bad.I have heard that it is one of best 1:18 models by Mondo Motors/MotorMax.

Great point about the Minichamps DB9, Pacman Smile
There's just problem though... the MC versions came 2-3 years back and are almost impossible to find now. When they do come up on ebay, they go in the high 70s and 80s ($$$s).

@Karan: The HW 61 is the best Pontiac GTO out there. Try to find one for atleast 1k lesser though. They usually go decently cheap, so keep your eyes peeled for auctions or a good buy now price.

RE: The "Best Manufacturer for a Model" Thread
Thanks Guggga for answering my query on the GTO. I thought the thread already had digressed to the DB9 Tongue The cheapest one on ebay right now can be had for $100 inclusive of shipping. Finding auctions solely depends on one's luck and determination to search everyday. For me, INR 5200 sounds a bit too high for a car like the GTO which although being in my wishlist doesn't have that high a priority.

Bandhav, I think with shipping, 3200 doesn't sound too bad. Also, Motormax quality in general might suck but like Burago, they have a few models in their lineup which are worth considering and the DB9 is one such model, Audi TT being another one. Waiting for pics of your DB9.

^^No problem K man, glad to help Smile
100 shipped is steep for the model. Though 45$$s are just for the shipping Sad

You don't have to check ebay everyday. ebay has an option wherein you can save your searches for items and anytime one comes up for auction or BIN, you get an email notification.
Hope this helps, goodluck!

I think now the only solace I can derive now is repeating the golden words of Winston "Buy what you like and like what you buy".

Thanks for the words of appreciation PH.
