My first ebay purchase
Guys, I found a listing on ebay for HW 1:18 Ferrari 550 Maranello for $15 and made my best offer to the seller for $12 which he has now accepted. The shipping charge is also just $20 so total comes to $32 or roughly INR 1600....a very sweet deal IMHO.

However, could anyone tell me how much time does "standard international shipping" take?? The seller has told me there's another mode of shipping but which will cost a whopping $55 and the model will be delivered to me within a week. The seller is based in Canada.

My favorite post on SMC "I wait for the day when you go ballistic while buying models after you get your first job. I think I would be seeing KV & the Modelart guys bursting fire crackers all day." (quote Winston)

Though I don't have much experience when it comes to international shipping but I would suggest you to stick with normal shipping as it will keep the deal sweet. Those extra 35$ and the deal may not feel that sweet.

You will get the model eventually if not in a week maybe in four but at the end you will have desirable model at a very good price.

RE: My first ebay purchase
Congratulations!I have a 1:18 Ferrari 550 Maranello by HotWheels and let me tell you that it is the only HotWheels 'Foundation' 1:18 Ferrari in my collection that I am not even going to consider replacing with an Elite rendition. It is really very well made.Go ahead with your plan to stick to 'Standard International Shipping'.Not worth spending any more than Rs1600 on a HotWheels 'Foundation' model.I'm afraid I too am clueless about how long it might take.Though I bet that depends largely on your luck.So all the very best!!Smile

Karan congratulations on the winning deal. Standard shipping from Canada means the parcel will be tossed into the sea and the tides will get it home. Sooner than 4 months, consider yourself lucky. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.

Congratulations on the 550 Maranello! Its a lovely car indeed!
Like Winston said, standard shipping from Canada will be a long wait. His Lancia Startos came in 4 months after he had lost hope of her ever turning up!

However, since the total cost is low, I suggest you take the plunge - there's not much to loose, and they always show up! Don't worry about customs, ask the seller to mark the car as a "gift" and tell him to package it very well for the rough ride.

Good luck and hope to see pictures of her soon. Smile

Karan, throw in a few additional CAD $ to make it registered. Otherwise, it is a risk. You can register standard parcels too. Canada post provides free insurance with registered articles. So incase it is lost the seller can recover the money and refund you.

Karan,

Nice buy, standard international shipping, is cheap and way to go. I have got kits from US with same shipping class. It took around 4-5 weeks to be delivered.

Since they are kits, customs do not bother to even look at them.
