Mercedes Benz G55 AMG by Autoart
I present you all my most loved possession, the Mercedes Benz G55 AMG. I had this in my wish-list for more than a year and I’m overwhelmed to finally have it (thanks to KV). I would also write a small review as I think no one has done it so far.

The G Class or G-Wagen was first built in the year 1979. It is still unique among the modern day SUVs due to its boxy features which has remained unchanged for more than three decades since it was built for the first time. Despite its old school looks, the luxury and comfort inside its cabin are easily at par with many business class sedans of its era. The current G 500 version and AMG powered G55 are very fast but still outperforms many other SUVs when off-road.

Now coming to the 1:18 version of the G55 done by the mighty Autoart. Its build defines the modern day Autoart quality and I must say that its very well built. It has an absolutely amazing presence and it very well stands out when kept next to the other premium scale models. The convex alloys on the 2009 facelift version are way better than the dull flat alloys on the older version as far as aesthetic presence is concerned and it has been replicated very well by Autoart. The shut lines are even and the door hinges are examples of perfection, also the fine hinges of the bonnet are quite brilliantly done. The paint job is excellent and the shades of the metal parts and the plastic ones are no different. The tiny “V8 Kompressor” logos behind the front wheel arches and the “G55, AMG” ones at the back are pieces of art and a treat to watch. The engine is blocky but so is the one in the 1:1, so I don’t have much complains regarding that. One small lovely piece of detail I would love to mention is the little red fire extinguisher right at the bottom of the driver’s seat, it’s another piece of beauty Autoart has very well taken care of.

Now since I’ve paid a whooping 7k I think I deserve to ask at least a bit more than what I’ve got. Most of you might disagree but I strongly feel that the proportions are not perfect. There are many budget models which are not made to the right scale, suffer from uneven shut lines and bad replication but their proportions blow me away. In fact due to this very reason the gaps between the wheels and the arches are more than what they actually should be. The chrome issues exist on this one too. The Merc emblem on the front grill are expected to be very very finely crafted which is not so. The chrome on the grill appears as if it won’t last very long (hope I’m wrong). The chrome plating on the rear spare tire-cover has already started loosing its shine. The tail lights are only finely crafted pieces of plastics which simply do not match the craftsmen ship that has gone in the entire making. Attachment stubs appear on the small red and white lights on the rear bumper and on the indicator lamps on the RVMs and this is one issue which turns me off big time. Opening the 5th door at the back needs some good amount of skill, trust me its very tight and it literally may loosen or even break the door handle while trying to open it. It can only be opened with a sharp object (like a screw driver) and I think I’ve only opened it only thrice (once during the photo shoot) after having it.

Nonetheless it’s a sheer pleasure acquiring her and I love her to the core. My tastes for cars are a bit odd and the year long wait has paid off well. I’m happy that I’ve been able to bag her before the price goes even higher. Anyway now let the pictures follow the review.

Is it so?

The grains on chart are coming out so nicely, it seems like a richer surface.
