Difference between Hot Wheels and Hot Wheels Elite
Guys, my collection badly needs some modern day Ferraris in 1:18 especially the Italia and the Enzo (love both these cars madly). Now my dilemma is choosing between HW and HWE. I have been inspecting detailed pics of both HW and HWE versions for each of Italia and Enzo on the internet and I really haven't noticed much of a difference between HW and HWE externally (only fine differences in rear light modelling and brake calipers and the like). Pricewise, there would be a difference of about 1500 INR for the Enzo between the HW and the HWE versions. While for the Italia, the difference is almost double. Had the difference between HW and HWE been more like the difference between a Maisto and an Autoart, I would probably have saved up and went for the HWE's but very minor differences between the HW and the HWE versions is now making me lean towards the HW versions (more in case of the Italia since the HWE version is just obscenely expensive). Would appreciate your opinion on this guys. Thanks

RE: Difference between Hot Wheels and Hot Wheels Elite
I have the ordinary Enzo and I wouldn't suggest one if you love the Enzo. It has stickers to represent vents. The rear wheels are out of scale and the detailing is not up to mark. I would suggest you to save up and get this landmark Ferrari in its HWE version. I think Guggga will better explain on the 458 as he has the Elite version. Over to you Guggga.

RE: Difference between Hot Wheels and Hot Wheels Elite
Thanks for bringing up such a topic Karan. Though I'm that big Ferrari or super car fan, but there are still a few super cars I would die for. Could anyone of you guys please suggest what would be the best F430 coupe in 1:18 scale (apart from the BBR) that I could buy.

RE: Difference between Hot Wheels and Hot Wheels Elite
Like Winston said, if you really like the Enzo- steer clear of the non elite version. Its not one of their best efforts.
However, cars like the 599XX and Italia - the non-elites are much better built. Agreed, they do have plastic doors and bonnets, however, there are no paint mismatch issues and fit is much much better than earlier. The non-elites also come minus all photo etch badges, mesh, interior detail, engine detail. Basically, the shape and stance is spot on, but on closer inspection they miss all the nice detailed bits too. I have the elite 458 Italia and the 599XX and they are a treat to inspect - the 599XX more so. If you can, spend the 1500 bucks extra cus you won't regret it at all. These HWEs are on par with the best there and for about 100 USD shipped (sometimes lesser if you look around well), they are really a bargain. Also, keep an eye out for the new Italia GT2, no need to pay the premium the market now demands for the original 458 Italia release. Good luck mate ![]() Also: Others could chip in too, my response in based on collected reading ![]() @ Srinjayray- The HWE version is very well done as well. Not BBR level- but certainly Autoart level Hope this helps! |

RE: Difference between Hot Wheels and Hot Wheels Elite
^^There are numerous available on ebay in 100-115$ range, if you mean locally, then yes none available.
It would be just great if KV can bring such models on DCM. |

RE: Difference between Hot Wheels and Hot Wheels Elite
I'll take that one, curiosity.'Foundation' is the term often used to refer to the non-Elite HotWheels models.Basically,Mattel has three distinct lines or ranges of 1:18 diecast metal scale-model cars:
1.HotWheels Elite 'Special Edition' also known as HotWheels 'Super Elite' - Very very expensive. These are priced at very close to BBR money but are really just HotWheels Elite models with very slight improvements on a fancy leather base. 2.HotWheels Elite - The middle range.Better than the the normal HotWheels (or HotWheels 'Foundation') line.If I understand correctly, these cost somewhere between Norev and AutoArt.Some of the older 1:18 Elite models like the Ferrari F50 and 288 GTO are a bit disappointing and not quite as good as you would expect from something that comes in a box with 'Elite' written on it.But the newer products like the 458 Italia,599XX,599 GTO and 410 Superamerica are supposed to be really very good. 3.HotWheels or HotWheels 'Foundation' - The bottom of the pyramid.Shouldn't cost a lot more than Maisto or Welly products.Detailing is not as good as the Elite models. I really really want somebody to bring Elite to India.I don't have a single HotWheels Elite model but there are a lot that I very badly need. Inside every man is a little kid who wants to play. |

RE: Difference between Hot Wheels and Hot Wheels Elite
I agree with Sid,
Modern day Elite cars (458,59XX) are master piece from hotwheels as compare to Autoart or Kyosho and have price gap too which is noticeable and proper scene to have cos BBR & MR had screwed them by making sealed models.Elite models is rarity too..very hard to find 458 in red or even california. Major difference between them is details, carpet, rounded parts and cheap plastic but anytime better than Maisto. HWSE (super elite) is wastage of money ,only noticeable difference is packing and price. BBR Best from them is Enzo & 430 if you get deal on them don't let go, spl the Enzo. 1 MR,1 BBR,1HWSE, 80 Autoart,56 kyosho,31 Minichamps,26 Norev,7 UT,10 HW Elite,2 Exoto

RE: Difference between Hot Wheels and Hot Wheels Elite
Ok. My two cents.
I have the Elite enzo and two non-elite enzos. The Elite Enzos are FANTASTIC!! The engine detail is really really good and so is the interior!! When it comes to the 458, the Non elite and the Elite are very similar. If you don't want to spend the money, don't get the Elite. but, if you find one at a good price. POUNCE ON HER!! Simple!! It is one of the best and heaviest models in my collection!! |
