1967 Ford Mustang (Maisto 1:24)
This was my first diecast model. Although technically, I had bought this along with the Maisto 1:24 Lamborghini Murcielago in green colour but don't remember exactly which one I picked first
I bought this one while loitering around in SGS Mall in Pune back in early 2008. I was totally taken aback that replicas of actual cars were being sold. I had never in my wildest dreams imagined that such products even existed. There were other 1:24 models available there but this Mustang and the Murcielago just totally hooked me. At that time, I gulped twice before parting 1000 bucks for both the 1:24 models (500 apiece). I had a long chat with Guggga today and he made me realise the attachment each one of us have towards the models in our collection, irrespective of how flawed they may be and more importantly, how to respect that attachment. Since last few months, I might have become a lot more cynical in my approach to models in general and to budget models in particular and this thread is meant to be a reminder of how I started off with this hobby and never to forget my roots. I realised this piece of advice is applicable not just to diecast models but to life in general also. Thanks Guggga.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
My favorite post on SMC "I wait for the day when you go ballistic while buying models after you get your first job. I think I would be seeing KV & the Modelart guys bursting fire crackers all day." (quote Winston) ![]() picasaweb.google.com/karansharma8783 |

That is a nice car Karan, infact when i decided to go to bigger scale and start collecting this was the first one i brought. This car is super heavy compared to my other 1:24's.

Bro. thats big of you to say that. Cheers man!
![]() Like Pacman said, great choice of subject matter for first diecasts. My first was a 1/24 Burago F50. Its still with me battered and bruised after 15 years.

RE: 1967 Ford Mustang (Maisto 1:24)
Let me say my viewpoint on budgets and non-budgets. This is my personal viewpoint.
For me, a budget model is not the one that costs less, but the one that delivers the maximum value for money. For example the 190 E Mercedes by Autoart that I bought for 50 Euros in 2008, is a budget model for me. It has a tremendous value for money. Again, the Dodge Viper SRT by Maisto which I bought for Rs 900 in 2007, is a waste of money for me as it failed to deliver. I have several models of Maisto like Hummer 1, 2, Mercedes CLS, SLK which I all tag as budget models. Good value for money. The Bentley Arnage T by Minichamps is a classic example of an overpriced non budget model. It has a very little value for the 8K - 9K you are spending. At 4K, it would have been a cool budget model. Low price does not indicate budget unless the minimum quality is delivered. Similarly overpriced does not guarantee you, you are buying a moon. Judge before you buy, ask someone, look for deals and spend your money. I started my collection with a Maisto Studebaker Starliner that cost me 750 bux in those older Maisto small black boxes. It is one of my favourite models and the best budget I have. ![]() Am Not Weird, Am Just a LIMITED EDITION!!! |

Oh man, I couldn't agree with you more. I could never quite understand why the brilliantly replicated 190 was priced so low (in comparison). Karan, that's a great, luscious colour. Very nice. |
