RE: Minichamps 2011 catalog
^^ I'm getting 404 page not found error.
My favorite post on SMC "I wait for the day when you go ballistic while buying models after you get your first job. I think I would be seeing KV & the Modelart guys bursting fire crackers all day." (quote Winston) ![]() picasaweb.google.com/karansharma8783 |

RE: Minichamps 2011 catalog
Except for the new Bentley Continental GT and the McLaren MP4-12C in 1:18 scale, this catalogue looks exactly the same as last year's.The 1:18 Aston Martin DBS and 1:18 McLaren F1 Road Car have been 'Coming Soon' for nearly two years.I've been told that Minichamps and, indeed, most other scale-model maufacturers are in some pretty deep shit at the moment.

RE: Minichamps 2011 catalog
Thanks for sharing Ravi. I love the Bentley R Type.
Hmmm...bankruptcy is an issue for people like us, I've still not been able to acquire a Minichamps. But I'm not sure if they charge the right price for what they give. If their models are overpriced, they should cut down on the prices - which might make people buy their products a bit more frequently and also bring them collectors who purchase the budget brands otherwise.

RE: Minichamps 2011 catalog
I don't know a lot about the problems Minichamps and the others are facing. But I've got some idea.Apparently,it's all got to do with the ever-increasing labour costs in China. There are countries where lower production costs could be achieved but shifting the manufacturing facilities would require huge capital investment.Plus the Chinese workers are now very skilled at the process.(AutoArt has an interesting article on this 'Finger-Craft' that can be accessed on http://www.autoartmodels.com.)So even if these brands managed to shift out of China, training the new labour force would take years. As a result, they're all in big trouble. From what I've heard,Kyosho's not doing too well and AutoArt might just be a huge bubble about to burst. All those super-expensive licences the latter's been acquiring could spell the company's doom.In fact, recent conversations I've had with Nikhil Shah and Rakhesh Mehta seem to suggest that most of these big names could be out of business within the next couple years.I sure as hell hope that they're both wrong.
