RE: A thread to showcase your display case and to discuss queries regarding them.
Karan, please bro, I hope the glass is resting on something solid on both ends. If the wooden sides are free standing, they could bend and that could make the glass shelves come crashing down. Sometimes it is better to go by our gut instinct rather than the carpenters skill. Since you are looking at it right now, I guess you are the best judge and if required, put in some reinforcements.

Also, make sure the glass sits on brass studs at the 4 corners and and atleast on in between. A mirror background would be nice but it only adds weight and cost to an already expensive setup. Remember that glass shelves will cost you more than the wooden cabinet. Don't forget to make the doors lockable. You don't want kids to have a gala time when you are not at home. Make provision for LED light strips now itself. Later its a hassle. Yea, I know bout the thickness thing from my last tiny display, that is 6mm I think, those shelves are about 2 feet. Thanks, I'll make sure they're brass but just one in between? I'll have around 3 at equal intervals just to be on the safer side...LOL ![]() I too had planned a mirror background (Inspired by the display at Modelart) but I guess now I'll pass that as it looks good with big spacious cabinets, with a lotta dedicated area for a single item & stuff displayed neatly. What I'll have is a showcase with a model kept every 6 inches in all directions, mirror will make it really busy. Now I've decided to split it in black & white backgrounds to contrast the bright & dark colored models respectively. Will do a demo kinda thing before going for it. ANd yea, lock is a must. Thanks! ![]() (09-30-2011 01:19 AM)winstoncds Wrote: Since you are looking at it right now, I guess you are the best judge and if required, put in some reinforcements. +1 Karan, inspect & make sure your precious models are safe in that cabinet. | Cars: 32 in 1:24, 2 in 1:18 plus 13 others | Bikes: 41 in 1:18 | Salakshya.com | Slix's collezione at facebook |
