Hey guys, wanted to share one of my most precious models in the collection - a probably now-extinct Aston model from the late Hot Wheels. I think this was one of the last few HW pieces leftover when I bought it almost 2 years back from the ebay seller Maisto_Scale_Models, which is actually, I think, a part of Modelart itself.

Anyhows, I'll try to keep this review short :P Bodywork is perfect, exact proportions and stance nicely captured by HW. One remarkable thing that I felt as soon as I held the model in my hands was the tight fitting of all panel parts on the bodywork unlike in most Maisto models. The model felt as a complete whole, hard to describe it in words really.

In other aspects like interiors, engine details, the car is like a typical Maisto. Engine detailing is okish, not very extravagant. Interiors are slightly better. I liked the dashboard and the seats are the best feature of the interiors, look at the pics of the interior.

Wheels are also quite well done. Love the rim design in the Aston. Visible brake discs which are again nicely done.

Overall, a definitely well done model and a must-have for exotic lovers. Forgot to mention the paintwork. It's excellect with even, metallic shining finish. The car looks gorgeous in yellow. However, one negative point is the lack of openable boot.

Overall rating - 7.5/10 - A bit overpriced at 1700 bucks (atleast by 300 bucks, I feel) but it's one of those rare ones now so grab it if you do manage to come across one. Especially considering the fact that Maisto doesn't make the Vantage.

Ok, first of all, really really sorry for writing such a humongous review. I was myself surprised by the time I was done. Just that I'm absolutely free for a few days and so just rambled on here about the GT.

Bought this one almost about 2 weeks ago when I had gone to Toy Corner. There were some other Maisto models too and the other one that caught my eye was the BMW M5, which was a real stunner. Awesome paintwork and overall finish. I took some time deciding whether to get the GT or the M5. Of course the GT won in the end.

I had come across the red version of the GT from Maisto long back in Kolkata, the red one also looked awesome. In fact, even after I have bought this silver version, I still can't decide which looks better, the red one or the silver one. The silver one has got great paint glistening and finish but the red one is an instant eye-catcher for the simple fact it's in red and also because the yellow brake calipers contrast even more with the red of the bodywork than with the silver.

Apart from some minor glitches in the overall finish, this is another hit from Maisto. And it has to be being a Premier Edition model costing 1650 bucks. 1650 is a bit on the higher side paying for a Maisto, when you are used to spending 1375 on Maistos so you would expect a bit more muscle than in their regular models. That is somewhere I think this model is lacking a bit. At 1650, I think it's a tad overpriced. Shouldn't be more than 1400 or 1500.

Bodywork - Perfect as far as I've examined it. However, judging from the pics of the actual 1:1, I think the 1:18 has a slight forward pointed stance because of the larger diameter of the rear wheels, which I'm not very sure is the case in the 1:1. The effect is that the rear end is slightly higher up than the front end which makes the car look very agile. However, Maisto should have reduced the suspension height and the ground clearance in the model. For an exotic supercar it's a bit more than usual I believe.

Paintwork - High quality glistening even paint finish with the metallic pixel-like finish typical in other high-quality Maisto models like the SLR and the Murc. No complains whatsoever about the paint finish. Paint finish is something that lends a huge amount of appeal to any diecast and catches your eyes instantly even if you aren't a fan of that particular car. Considering this, Maisto has clearly excelled here.

Interiors - Slightly better than some other Maistos. Dashboard modelled ok with signature overlapping dials of the Porsche. One unique thing about the GT that I found particularly interesting is the way the central panel with the gear stick has been designed so that it's sloping upwards rather than flat. Faithfully represented here. And I like the seats too. The seats' headrest is another quite unique feature of the GT. For some reason however, Maisto have modelled it quite decently in the left seat but botched it up in the right one. Sorry couldn't take detailed pics as I don't have my digicam with me and took all these pics from a cellphone. Steering wheel is a bit fat I believe, could have been modelled better.

Engine - This is the hallmark and selling point of this model, out and out, no doubt about it. One of the best engine detailing by Maisto ever (but after the Corvette Stingray engine detailing of course). I just love the transparent engine hood meshing through which you could see the huge engine coverling (I'm not sure what those huge 2 cylinder-like things are called!!!). There's even a couple of coiled-spring "latches" which seem to be holding the whole thing together. This is as good as it can get in a Maisto, trust me. And in the red version of the GT, the silver engine meshing looks even more awesome because of the colour contrast.

Wheels - Have to mention them separately in this case because they are so well done!!!!!! Accurate modelling, no-stupid-chrome-like-Burago wheel rims that look superbly done along with the visible brake discs and the yellow-painted brake calipers. My only complaint is that the brake setup should have been much closer to the wheel rims as in the actual 1:1 so that the wheels look as if just barely scraping the the brake disc and caliper. It would definitely have looked cooler that way.

Bad points - Good model no doubt but has a few minor glitches as I mentioned. Panel gaps are too large in some places, especially in the door areas. These quite ruin the effect of an otherwise awesome model. Doors have those tight Maisto-typical hinges which snap open and shut with the irritating clasping sound. Also, the doors seem to be slightly loose and don't fit in nicely when shut in the first try. The brake light on the rear rollbar behind the passenger seats is merely red paint. Looks really bad. And no hint of an undercarriage modelling. The underbody is flat black plastic with etching the maker and model name. Also I would have loved it if they could have made the rear spoiler liftable like in the AA version. That would have been the real clincher.

Overall rating - 8/10. I would have liked to give 7.5 here because to be honest, I'm not a big fan of the GT. It's a beautiful car but Porsche, the laziest designers in the world, could not take the pains to design a brand-new frontend for the machine. From the rear the car just looks killer, the spoiler, the meshed engine cover, the door style. But the front somehow looks out of place for a car like this. It's as if the frontend has been lifted off from a modern 911, modified a little bit and then stuck onto the GT. The model has been done really good and that's why I feel I would be doing injustice to Maisto by giving it a 7.5. For getting this one, you don't have to be just a Porsche fan, but a fan of the GT too.

Here's some pics of one of my earliest diecast 1:18 models, the Porsche 911 Carrera S. This is a special edition Maisto, yet it's good and has a decent, good overall finish and appearance. It's a must have for any Porsche fan coz it's nicely priced at 1375.

Overall bodywork and proportions are really precise and good job done by Maisto in this area. I have seen the same model by Welly on the net and there's not much difference between this one and the Welly one in terms of the bodywork. However, the side indicator lights and other such minute details definitely require an over-haul. The Welly version has nicely detailed lights.

Paintwise, since this is a Special Edition Maisto, it has one of those flat paint finishes and not those metallic glistening paint finish like that found on the Murcielago LP640 or the SLR McLaren. But still the good thing is that the finish is even and since the colour is red, it does call out loud even when kept among the more better looking models.

Interiors are also pretty decent, dashboard has been modelled quite ok. Seats are pretty good too. Infact the interiors are much better than the Premier Edition SLR McLaren. The only thing that sucks here are the stupid Maisto style door hinges which creak when you snap them open or shut and don't quite fit in snugly into the bodywork at the first try when you close them.

Engine is not a sight to look at much. Just a bundled together lump of black plastic with some differences in colour here and there. Plus the engine space is so small that you can't anyway see much inside.

But one of the really attractive things about this model are the wheel rims and brake caliper detailing. Pretty good for a Maisto. The wheel rims actually have hexagonal rivets if you look closely. The wheels also have the Porsche insignia and the brake discs are perforated with the caliper in red colour. Definitely one of the unique points of the Porsche.

Overall rating - 7.5/10 - Go get it if you are a Porsche fan and don't have a single modern 911 in your stable. I came across this one in both red and black and chose the red one outright. 911 has to be red definitely.
